Cache This! (Technote)

Animated, Gears, boxHere’s a solution to an annoying little problem which has been bugging more  than a few people out there recently. This was originally posted in the Guru’s Forum but it seemed to make sense to make an article out of it. Here’s the skinny: You’ve just installed PowerFuse 2008 for the first time and everything seems hunky-dory in the console. Then you try to log into a session as a user and get this little number (click it to enlarge):

New technote: Preventing access to Admin shares

Animated, Gears, boxHere’s a tech-tip straight off the press. You might find yourself in the situation that you need to permit users to have the right to browse UNC paths on the network. This may be the case if you have users with elevated priveledges, such as users who are local administrators and are allowed to install software using the Partially Managed Workstation feature of PowerFuse.

RES UserGroup Online!

breaking-news-sThis morning, the long anticipated RESug.com went online, which is now the officially endorsed RES UserGroup site (unlike the babbeling black sheep of the community here ;-) Anyway, here at the ‘Guru we absolutely welcome the site to the growing community of RES technology related sites. A big hoorray for Yuri, Marcel, Thomas and everybody else who are involved  with this.

We took note of the nice info you guys are posting. Keep it comming! ;-) Looking forward to meeting you again at PubForum this year in Dublin.

UPDATE April 30th – it seems RESug.com is undergoing some dev & maintainance work, so we might have been a bit premature in the above announcement. Keep an eye on it however – something wonderfull might happen!

Got Skeletons?

skeleton_in_the_closetAnimated, Gears, boxA technote was published in the technote library in late March. This one will help you clean up any embarrasing log entries, which you need to clean out for one reason or another. Suppose you are running PowerTrace with WebTrace enabled in your environment and you or somebody else manage to surf to a webpage which everybody just rather forget about, then you need to find a way to surgically remove the skeletons from the closet, as you may want to retain the remainer of your PowerTrace logs.

In order to do this, you need to have the proper credentials for the PowerFuse datastore.

The article available here, will show you how to deal with this problem. A nifty buildingblock for Wisdom has also been included in the article.

Group for the Guru’s

breaking-news-sHello fellow Guru’s. It is a pleasure to announce the creation of a LinkedIn group for RESguru.com. This is a way for you to signify your affiliation and/or support for RESguru.com. If you like RESguru.com, please feel free to join the group here.

On another note,  we’ve nuked the KB archive link on the top menu of the blog and put in a direct link to the RESguru Forum. With a whopping total of two cached articles, the KB archive wasn’t really going anywhere and some of you asked for a better Forum link on top instead – well you got it! :)

Things will start to take off shortly again… Give it a week or so and we’ll be back – better than ever!

Integrating InstallFree with PowerFuse

Animated, Gears, boxHere’s something really useful. Sylvester de Koster over at CDG,  did some crunch time together with the nice folks over at RES to find a way to integrate PowerFuse with InstallFree, which is an application virtualzation technology vendor. Until now it’s been somewhat difficult to get stuff to run inside the virtual bubble of this platform. Together these  awesome guys managed to figure out how to integrate Installfree’s Full Bridge with PowerFuse! What follows is the no-frills how-to.  Later we will perhaps make a nice article with screenshots and everything. For now her is just  the raw info – Just as you like it! :)

New Wisdom Buildingblocks on the RES forum

legobrick_redOver the last couple of months, two nice Wisdom buildingblocks have been posted by users on the RES Forum. The latest BB will help you install Windows Deployment services on a Windows 2003 server. The other available buildingblock is able to turn off those pesky Cached Offline Folders.  This buildingblock is designed for target computers running Windows XP.

Great work chaps, thanks for sharing!
